- Lead-Acid Batteries (Car, UPS—non-leaking only)
- Power Tool Batteries
💲 The following single-use batteries have a $2 per pound charge:
- All single-use household batteries
- Button Cell Batteries (watches, hearing aids, remotes)
- AA, AAA, C, D, 9V
- Any non-rechargeable consumer batteries
Why We Charge for Alkaline Batteries
Alkaline and other single-use household batteries are much more expensive to process because:
- We are charged by our downstream processor to dispose of them properly
- They cannot be refurbished or reused
- They require manual sorting and cannot be mixed with other battery types
- They contain materials that must be handled as hazardous waste
- Disposal and transportation regulations have become stricter, increasing costs
Charging a small fee ensures we can continue offering free recycling for all rechargeable batteries while keeping our battery program safe, compliant, and affordable for the community.
